Parameters

url

Reddit post URL, e.g. https://www.reddit.com/r/Python/comments/1wwv97o/my_python_magic_is_gone/ or https://redd.it/1wwv97o (max 500 characters). Provide exactly one of url or post_id.

post_id

Reddit post ID, e.g. 1wwv97o (a t3_ prefix is accepted). Provide exactly one of url or post_id.

get_sentiment

Set to true to add AI emotion analysis (+$0.001/request)

video_url

MP4 file of a Reddit-hosted video, or empty string. It can be silent (Reddit stores most video sound separately), so use video_hls_url for video with sound. Reddit can expire video links, so use them soon after fetching

HLS stream (with sound) of a Reddit-hosted video, or empty string. Reddit can expire this link too

images

Image URLs: every image of a gallery post, in order, or the image of an image post (empty otherwise)

sentiment

Emotion analysis: emotions, dominant_emotion, emotional_intensity, polarity (when get_sentiment=true)

Frequently asked questions

Which URL formats are accepted?

Any reddit.com post URL (www, old or new Reddit, with or without the title slug) and redd.it short links. Share links (/s/...) aren't supported: open them in a browser first to get the post URL.

What is link_url?

For a link, image or video post it is the URL the post shares (an article, i.redd.it image or v.redd.it video). For a text post it is empty.

How do I get a post's video or images?

video_url is the MP4 file of a Reddit-hosted video and video_hls_url its HLS stream; the MP4 is often silent, as Reddit stores the sound separately, so use the HLS stream for video with sound. images lists every image of a gallery post in order, or the image of an image post.

Does it work for NSFW posts?

Yes. NSFW posts are returned with nsfw set to true.

How does pricing work?

You only pay for successful requests. The Reddit Post Details API costs $0.003 per request. There are no monthly fees or commitments. You get 50 free requests per endpoint every month.

Do I need a credit card to start?

No. You can sign up and use the free tier (50 requests/endpoint/month) without adding a payment method. You only need to add a card when you want to exceed the free tier.

Are there rate limits?

Yes, there's a concurrency limit of 10 simultaneous requests per endpoint per user. If you need more, just get in touch.
